Unit 2 - Science: What We Want, What We Need - How do characteristics help plants and animals meet their basic needs for survival?
- In this Unit students will:
  - Students will understand that all living organisms have similar basic needs, and have physical characteristics that help them meet those needs.
  - Students will use evidence collected from observations and research to determine the basic needs of plants and animals. They will also study the physical characteristics that plants and animals use to meet those needs.
  - As a result of this unit, students will be able to explain the common basic needs of all living organisms, the differences between the basic needs of plants and animals, and several physical characteristics for each that help them meet their basic needs.

Unit 4 - Science: Solids v. Liquids - What makes solids and liquids different?
- In this Unit students will:
  - Understand the unique properties that distinguish solids from liquids.
  - Students will investigate properties of solids and liquids to make general claims about their unique properties. This unit is especially useful for helping students understand what counts as an observation and hypothesis, and how to record each of them scientifically.
  - As a result of this unit, students will be able to justify a claim about whether a material is a solid or liquid using their understandings of the defining properties.

Unit 7 - Science: What on Earth?! - Why do different Earth materials have different uses?
- In this Unit students will:

Unit 8 - Social Studies: A World of Boundaries - What are geographical boundaries and why would we cross them?
- In this Unit students will:
  - Understand that maps and globes show both natural and man-made boundaries. Students also understand that people interact across boundaries (natural and man-made) for various reasons.
  - Students are exposed to geographic tools, such as maps and globes. Students understand that these models represent places that are separated by natural and man-made boundaries. Students use specific geographic vocabulary (direction, north, south, east, west) as they identify different kinds of boundaries.
  - Ultimately, students identify different kinds of boundaries that exist (including identifying their own address) and explain what they can learn about other people when they interact across boundaries.
